The 3 Interconnected Elephant Parks

Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla National Park, and Hurulu Eco Park form an interconnected natural corridor in Sri Lanka's dry zone.

July – September
Minneriya National Park

1. Minneriya National Park

The Great Elephant Gathering

During the peak dry season, water streams dry up and hundreds of Asian elephants converge around the historic Minneriya Reservoir for food and water.

October – November
Kaudulla National Park

2. Kaudulla National Park

Early Rains Migration

As rain fills Minneriya's shores, herds move to Kaudulla Reservoir's surrounding lush grasslands. Offers quiet and intimate safari encounters.

December – April
Hurulu Eco Park

3. Hurulu Eco Park

Evergreen Forest Sanctuary

During monsoon months, elephants move deep into Hurulu's dry evergreen forest reserve for shelter and rich tree vegetation.

Ancient Reservoirs & Ecological Harmony

The heart of this sanctuary network is the ancient Minneriya Tank, constructed by King Mahasen in the 3rd Century AD, along with the Kaudulla and Hurulu reservoirs. These ancient irrigation marvels sustain both agriculture and Asia's largest wild elephant population.

Because Suresh Priyadarshana resides locally in Habarana, he stays connected with park rangers daily across all three parks—ensuring your safari jeep goes to the exact park where elephants are currently active.
